Easter Week

Easter Sunday was, appropriately for the occasion, a bright sunny day. We went to Mass in the morning and then enjoyed a lovely Easter luncheon with the Catholic Society, held in Catriona’s garden.

There were large quantities of food, which is fortunate because Liam brought his appetite. My little son loves food and can pack it back with the best of them. He is also a social eater: if other people are eating, he wants in on the action. For his second lunch on Easter Sunday (I had fed him before we went to Catriona’s), he enjoyed cooked carrots and broccoli, roast lamb, potatoes, ham, vegetable curry, and strawberries. He ate and ate and ate, expressing mild annoyance if the bites did not come in fast enough sequence. Though Liam showed no signs of slowing down, I finally decided to leave the table to see whether he could be persuaded to do something else. We went to the sitting room to join the others, who had long since finished lunch. The ravenous eater diverted his attention to the dog, who seemed pleased to have made a new friend.

Not sure if Liam was as pleased about the encounter as Torquil was!
On our way home from Catriona's

On Wednesday, April 27th, I celebrated my 28th birthday. Brendan threw me a champagne birthday party, as I had missed out on the champagne last year on account of being pregnant (a champagne birthday is celebrated when your age matches your birth date: last year I was 27 on the 27th). Our Polish friend Rafal and I share the same birthday, so the party was in his honour too. Brendan invited the same crew that had joined us for our Christmas party and asked everyone to bring a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine. He insisted that all bottles be opened at once, which our guests did with great gusto. Then Rafal and I were to make speeches (again, at Brendan’s insistence). We thanked our guests for their presence and their friendship – both of us are far from home but feel we’ve found another home in Stirling. Speeches were followed by delicious cake, compliments of Kasia. I very much enjoyed the evening – a memorable birthday indeed.
