Besides adoring our son, we’ve also spent this week preparing for Christmas. The Catholic Society had their annual Christmas party on Saturday the 4th. We enjoyed a lovely meal of turkey with all the trimmings, and flaming Christmas pudding for dessert!

A package of parcels arrived from Susan & Bill early this week, so we decided to transform our living room lamp into a tree to decorate the room and provide a suitable home for the presents until we open them. Our “tree” now resides in the corner of the living room, making the whole place look appropriately festive! I also collaged a nativity scene, since our Willow Tree set didn’t make it over.

Another project that consumed the weekend and early week was getting our Christmas cards ready. They were mailed a few days ago, but I discovered yesterday that they may all be coming back to us because, not understanding the way the postal service works here, I bought the wrong kind of stamps. Very frustrating. So, dear family & friends, if you don’t receive a Christmas card from us until February, that’s why. Of course, we’re still hoping that the Christmas spirit will prevail and they’ll make it through despite being a few pence short… we’ll see.
The weather has been playing its part to make the Christmas season here similar to back home. I mentioned in a previous post that our first snowfall was on Nov. 26th, the earliest snowfall in Scotland in 17 years. It continued to snow for several days after that – so much so that the whole country is in winter shock! We are accustomed to weather like this, but Stirling doesn’t seem to be quite prepared for it. The shopping mall actually closed on Monday because of the weather!
Amidst all these Christmas preparations, Brendan is busy studying for and writing his exams. He wrote one on Tuesday, one yesterday, and has two more: Monday the 13th and Saturday the 18th. So far they’re going well, though he is eager to be done with them. We leave for our holidays on the 18th after Brendan’s exam. London, the Netherlands, France, Germany… we can’t wait!!!
Hi
ReplyDeleteThe F'ton group was here for lunch today as well as exchanging gifts for the BIG day. I told them there was a new posting from you. So we were thinking of you. Owen had a meeting so was unable to come but I got to see a more grown up Eloise. She was about 4-6 weeks old when I first met her and then again today - how she has grown. I had my camera ready to take pictures but in the hulabaloo of all the people I completely forgot - dumb me.
Hope you have good exams B. & good luck on the rest of them.
Hugs to all, Sally
